01The game
PLUNGEON is a single-player game that runs on your device, and you can play it without an internet connection. It goes online only to check for updates and, on Android, for Google Play Games if you use it (section 07). It needs no account and contains no ads, in-app purchases or subscriptions; if it has a price, you pay it once, through the app store.
Credits, ore, upgrades and every other in-game item exist only inside the game, and achievements and leaderboard scores are only a record of your play. None of them has any real-world value, and none can be bought, sold, exchanged or redeemed for money or anything else.
02Your licence
When you get PLUNGEON from an app store, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and play it for your own non-commercial entertainment, on devices you own or control and as the store’s own rules allow. You are licensed to use the app; you do not buy ownership of it.
You may not:
- copy, sell, rent, lend, sublicense or redistribute the app, or offer it through any other channel;
- modify, decompile, disassemble or reverse engineer the app, except where the law expressly allows it despite this restriction;
- submit achievements or leaderboard scores you did not earn by playing normally — for example with cheats, a modified copy of the app or tampered save data;
- remove or alter any copyright, trademark or licence notices; or
- use the app in any unlawful way, or in a way that infringes anyone else’s rights.
03Videos, streams and screenshots
You are welcome to record, stream and share videos and screenshots of your own play, including on monetised channels, as long as you do not suggest that we endorse you or your content.
04Purchases and refunds
You get PLUNGEON through Google Play or, once available, Apple’s App Store. The store handles payment, pricing, taxes and refunds under its own terms — for example the Google Play Terms of Service and Google Play’s refund policies. To ask for a refund, contact the store. This does not affect any statutory rights you have, for example if the app does not work as described.
05Your save data
Your progress is stored on your device and, on Android, if you sign in to Google Play Games, as a cloud copy in your own Google account (see the privacy policy). We do not keep a copy and cannot restore it: clearing the app’s storage, uninstalling the app or losing your device may delete it permanently, unless your cloud copy brings it back. The cloud save is provided through Google Play Games, under Google’s terms, as a convenience: we cannot guarantee that a cloud copy is up to date, available or recoverable.
06Updates and availability
We may release updates that fix problems, rebalance the game, or add, change or remove content. The app checks for them itself: when a newer version is out it tells you, and if your version is too old to keep working, it asks you to update through the store before you play on. The privacy policy explains the check. Without an internet connection the check does not happen, and the game plays as usual.
We try to keep PLUNGEON working well on current devices, but we cannot guarantee that it will run on every device or operating-system version, or that it will stay available in every store and country. The app needs no server of ours to run, so withdrawing it from a store does not by itself switch off a copy you have already installed.
07Google Play Games (Android)
On Android, PLUNGEON offers achievements, three leaderboards and a cloud save through Google Play Games, a service run by Google. It is optional: you can play the whole game without it. When you use it, Google’s own terms, such as the Google Terms of Service, apply to it alongside these terms, and the privacy policy explains what the game sends to it.
- Other players can see your Play Games name, avatar, achievements and scores, as your Play Games profile settings allow.
- Leaderboards are for scores earned by playing normally. We may hide or remove scores or players that appear to break these terms, as far as Google Play Games lets us.
- Google runs Play Games, and we cannot promise that it will always be available or keep its current features. If it goes away, or you stop using it, the game itself keeps working.
08Health and safety
Photosensitivity warning. PLUNGEON contains flashing lights, bright effects and screen shake. A very small number of people may have seizures or other symptoms when exposed to flashing lights or patterns, even with no history of epilepsy. If you or anyone in your family has had seizures or epilepsy, ask a doctor before playing. Stop playing immediately and see a doctor if you experience dizziness, altered vision, eye or muscle twitches, loss of awareness, disorientation or convulsions.
You can tone the effects down in the game’s Settings with Impact flash, Screen shake and Reduced motion. Take regular breaks.
09Ownership and open-source software
PLUNGEON — its name, logo, code, visuals, music and sound — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark and other laws. These terms do not transfer any of those rights to you.
PLUNGEON is built with the Godot Engine, released under the MIT licence, and uses the Chakra Petch and JetBrains Mono typefaces under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. The Android version also includes Google’s Play Games Services software, under Google’s terms. Those components remain under their own licences and terms, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under them.
10Feedback
If you send us ideas or suggestions, you allow us to use them to improve the game, without any obligation to you.
11Disclaimer
We make PLUNGEON with care, but it is provided “as is”: to the extent the law allows, we do not promise that it will be free of bugs or interruptions, or that it will meet every expectation. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights — for example to a game that matches its description — are not affected. Google Play Games and the update check, which reads a file hosted on GitHub, depend on services that we do not control.
12Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of game progress, and our total liability to you in connection with the app is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for wilful misconduct and gross negligence.
13Ending these terms
You can stop using PLUNGEON at any time by uninstalling it. If you seriously breach these terms — for example by distributing copies of the app — your licence ends automatically. Sections that by their nature should continue, such as 09, 11, 12 and 15, survive the end of these terms.
14Changes to these terms
We may update these terms when the game or the law changes. We will post the new version on this page with a new date, and mention significant changes in the app’s release notes. If you do not agree to the updated terms, you can stop using the app. Your statutory rights are never affected.
15Consumer rights and general terms
- If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms limits the mandatory consumer-protection laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in the courts there.
- If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
- If we do not enforce part of these terms straight away, we have not waived it.
- These terms, together with the privacy policy and the store’s own terms, are the whole agreement between you and us about the app. Google’s terms govern Google Play Games itself.
16Apple App Store
If you get PLUNGEON from Apple’s App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement governs your licence, and these terms apply alongside it wherever the two do not conflict.
